Allen held deeply to the Lutheran faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.
Faith gave Allen a place to stand, and a place to return to.
Allen Schoenwald, 63 of Marion, died on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at the Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 23, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Freeman. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday, April 22, 2022 at the Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Chapel, Marion, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home. Allen Ray Schoenwald was born on May 22, 1958 at Freeman, SD to Ferdinand and RoseMary (Mohr) Schoenwald. He grew near Marion where he graduated from Marion High School in 1977. He farmed in the Marion and Dolton area. On May 31, 2008 he was united in marriage to Jeanette Schuster at Marion, SD. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Dolton township board. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Jeanette; 3 children, Steve (Jill) Schuster, Ramsey, MN, Richard (Camille) Schuster, Andover, MN and Jennifer (Jeffrey) Peterson, Princeton, MN; 3 grandchildren, Mason, Brayden and Raelynn; a brother Dean (Sheryl) Schoenwald, Marion; and 2 sisters, Laurie (Scot) Petersen and Jody (Gary) Luke, all of Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Keith.
