After a life of love and quiet grace, George Griebel, 83, has passed.

The memories of a long life are the inheritance of those who remain.

George Griebel, 83 of Monroe, passed away on October 31, 2020 at the Sanford USD Medical Center. Private Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, November 13, 2020 at Calvary Reformed Church in Monroe with public burial to follow at Rosehill Cemetery, Parker. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, November 12, 2020 at the Church. Due to Covid-19, the family request that guests wear a mask and practice social distancing at both opportunities to celebrate George's life. The family invites the public to listen to the funeral service on Friday locally in Monroe on 87.9 FM radio or watch at http://fb.me/CalvaryReformedMonroe . Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home. George was born April 28, 1937, to Lewis and Jessie (Dreyer) Griebel on the farm where he lived most of his life. He graduated from Monroe High School and started farming. In 1958 he married Margret Mammenga and they built a dairy farm. They are the parents of 4 children: Gregory (Angela), Brian (Becky), Monica and Nordell (Jennifer). They all learned to work on the farm. George served on the Marion School Board, as a deacon on the church board and on the Turner County Weed Board. He enjoyed woodworking and built many items such as picture frames, cabinets, entertainment centers and fireplaces. He also enjoyed bowling and golfing. After retirement George and Margret went traveling and camping with friends. They moved into Marion in 2014. He leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Margret and children, 8 grandsons Tyler Miller, Ethan Olsen, Tate and Alec Griebel, Gage, Tark, Brandt and Brogan Griebel, 6 step-grandchildren Jacob, Simon and Christopher Wuertz, Whitney (Steve) Clarke, Lexie Weier and Kyle Weier and 2 step great grandchildren Kendall and Bennett Clarke, 1 brother Norbert (Jan) Griebel and family, brothers-in-law Jerry(Karen) Mammenga, Terry (Sandie) Mammenga and Jeff (Lisa) Mammenga; sisters-in-law Mary (Don) Dorsman, Doris (Duane) Carlson, Norma Hermanson and Nancy Unruh and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Jessie Griebel and brother-in-law Eugene Hermanson and sister-in-law Jeanne Mammenga
