Meredith Jeanne Larsen, 86,, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved her dearly.

Behind every name is a life, and behind every life are the people who loved it.

Born in 1927, Meredith began a life that would touch many along the way.

Meredith held deeply to the Presbyterian faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

The community of faith holds its own well — and Meredith was held.

Hurley. Meredith Jeanne Larsen, 86 died Thursday, November 6, 2014 at her home. Funeral services will be at 10:30am Monday, November 10, 2014 at Harmony Presbyterian Church, Hurley with burial in the Hurley Cemetery. A Prayer Service followed by a Eastern Star Service will be at 2:00pm Sunday at the church with visitation from 2-5pm Sunday afternoon. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home. Meredith Jeanne Goodhope was born on December 9, 1927 at Hurley, South Dakota to O. Chris and Hazel (Woodward) Goodhope. After graduating from Hurley High School in 1945 she attended the SD Beauty Academy. On September 22, 1946 she was united in marriage to Carl L. Hansen at Hurley. She operated a beauty shop in Viborg and later at her farm home. On the farm she cooked and brought great many meals to the field. She also worked as a bookkeeper for over 25 years in Hurley, Crooks, and Texas, retiring in 1999. They lived in Hurley until 1987 when they moved to Ft. Worth, Texas for 2 years, Tempe, AZ and then Rapid City, SD for a short time, and Sioux Falls for 9 years. Her husband Carl L. Hansen died in 1995. On May 30, 1999 she was united in marriage to Charles E. Larsen at Hurley where they lived. She enjoyed her Tuesday and Friday morning coffee gatherings. She was a member of the Harmony Presbyterian Church where baptized in 1928, she also was the long time treasure and active in United Presbyterian Women, Swan Lake Extension Club, Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, and the Hurley Historical Society. She loved to travel, golfing, and reading. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Charles, 3 step children, Chuck (Linda) Larsen, Saratoga, WY, Richard Larsen, Piedmont, SD, and Cathy Ludens, Viborg; 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; a brother Robert Goodhope, Parker; 3 sisters, Bonnie (Gene) Holt, Santa Barbara, CA, Coryill (Don) Weeg, Sioux Falls, and Sheryl (Dennis) Christensen, Leawood, KS; 2 brother in laws, Dennis (Mary Ann) Larsen, Arvada, CO and Lawrence Spilde, Estelline, SD; and she was a very special aunt to her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 2 sisters, Eloise and Merilyn. Memorials maybe directed to the Harmony Presbyterian Church or Order of Eastern Star.
