Norris O. Solem Marion. Norris O. Solem, 79 died Sunday, September 26, 2014 at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home, Viborg. Memorial services will be at 2:0pm Friday, September 26, 2014 at the Hofmeister Jones Funeral Chapel, Marion with burial in the Monroe Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 6-8:00pm Thursday evening at the Hofmeister Jones Funeral Chapel, Marion. Norris Olaf Solem was born on January 29, 1935 at Badger, South Dakota to Nordt and Laura (Clark) Solem. He grew up and attended school in the Winfred, South Dakota area. He worked with his father at the elevator and farmed and also worked as a farm hand for several farmers in the area. On June 29, 1985 he was united in marriage to Lorraine Schwartman at the United Church of Christ at Canistota, South Dakota. They lived in the Marion, South Dakota area where he was employed as a carpenter for Breske Construction for 20 years, retiring in 1997. He also worked for a time at the Turner County Fair grounds at Parker, South Dakota. He has been a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home since 2013. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Lorraine; 5 children, Donna, Valley Springs, SD, John (Cinnamon), Eureka, CA, Robert, Watertown, SD, Nora, Minneapolis, MN and Anita, El Paso, TX; 11 grandchildren; a brother Don (Louise), Lewiston, IH; and a brother in law, Harold (Sandy) Schwartman, Killeen, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Catherine and Esther, a brother Herb, and an infant daughter Virginia Lynn.
