After a life of love and quiet grace, Alma Aukland, 77, has passed.

The story begins in 1944, with the arrival of a life that would be cherished by many.

Quiet kindness echoes longest.

Alma M Aukland Alma Aukland, 77 of Hurley, SD and retired teacher at Bison, SD, died Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at her home. No services are planned with burial in Bison at a later date. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home. Alma Mae Aukland was born on March 5, 1944 at Hettinger, ND to Gudmund and Helen (Brown) Aukland. She grew up at Bison where she graduated from Bison High School in 1962. After obtaining her teaching degree from Black Hills State of Spearfish she taught school at New Underwood, some rural country schools and retired after many years from teaching junior high in Bison. She lived in Yankton for a time before moving to Hurley in 2016. Grateful for sharing her life are a sister Erma Anderson, Hurley; a brother Leslie (Joyce) Aukland, Bison; special friends Norm and Carla Putnam, Michael, Amanda Putnam and family, of Brandon, and Connie and Britnee Aaker of Bison, a niece Becky, and 3 nephews, Rodney, Russell & Daroll. Great nieces, Kayla, and Miranda, Great nephews, Rusten, Ryder, Zachary, Bailey and Joseph. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Leo and a sister Twila.
