It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Dennis Borgers, 79, — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.

These few paragraphs cannot hold a life, but they may carry a memory.

Dennis entered this world in 1944 — the start of a journey that would span 79 years.

Dennis spent his working life as ['the Marion Elevator', 'Raap Chevrolet and was a DeSmet Farm Insurance Agent'] — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

Quiet kindness echoes longest.

Dennis Borgers, 79 of Marion, died suddenly on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 of an apparent heart attack at his home. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday October 7, 2023 at the Chancellor Reformed Church, in Chancellor, SD. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 Friday at the church with a Prayer Service at 7:00pm. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home. Dennis LeRoy Borgers was born March 4, 1944 to William and Edna Borgers. He grew up near Canistota before the family moved to Eugene, Oregon having attended Canistota School and then moved to Eugene, Oregon and graduated from Crow, Oregon in 1962. He was united in marriage to Sharon Borgers at Sandham Reformed Church on June 5th, 1964 in Monroe, SD. To this union, two children were born, Lyndale and Gary. They raised their family on their farm North of Marion before moving to their current residence in Marion. Dennis was a jack-of-all-trades in the workforce- he farmed, worked construction, worked at the Marion Elevator, worked for Raap Chevrolet and was a DeSmet Farm Insurance Agent. Dennis was active in his church for many years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, restoring old tractors and spending time with family. Even though he liked some red tractors, he really enjoyed John Deere green! He enjoyed many wonderful trips with his wife and good friends including Alaska, Florida, Texas, Hawaii, Arizona, Panama, and Aruba. His most recent trip was to South Africa for a safari hunt with his son's and grandson Tyler and wife Colette. He claimed that if it walked in front of him, it didn't have a chance when going on this hunt. He was able to shoot a Kudu, Black Impala, Gemsbok, and Blesbok. He loved being with his family. Sharon and Dennis made many trips to Wisconsin to visit Gary and Cindy and family. Most importantly, he knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Those grateful for having shared his life include two sons: Lyndale (Christi) Borgers of Howard, SD; Gary (Cindy) Borgers of Eldorado, WI; grandchildren: Shelby (Cody), Sarah (Jeremiah), William, Tyler (Colette), Suzanne (Xavier), Candie (Mike), Robbie (Emily) and nine great-grandchildren: Rowan, Reid, Quinn, Paris, Legend, Halo, Axtyn, Zaydon, and Kyson; a sister: Jean (Eugene) Nachtigall, a sister-in-law Darla (Doug) Buseman; brothers-in-law: Jerry (Priscilla) Weeldreyer and Terry (Doreen) Weeldreyer. Dennis was preceded in death by his wife Sharon Borgers; parents, Edna and William Borgers; parents-in-law Esther & John Weeldreyer, brother Larry Borgers and sister-in-law Rose Borgers.
