Eugene "Doc" Bachtell, 73, has gone home, leaving behind a circle of those who loved him.

Eugene's story began in 1942, and unfolded across the years that followed.

A life of service shapes more than the one who serves.

Eugene "Doc" Bachtell, 73, Burke, SD and formerly of Sioux Falls died Sunday, July 10, 2016 at the Burke Community Hospital. Graveside services will be at 5:30pm Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the Lennox Cemetery, Lennox, SD. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home, Parker. Eugene Charles Bachtell, Jr. was born on November 27, 1942 at McCook, Nebraska to Eugene and Helen (Stroman) Bachtell. He served in the US Army from 1967-1969. In 1974 he began his career with the city of Sioux Falls where he worked for the street department for 29 years, retiring in 2003. He was married to Barbara Granum in August of 1959. To this union 3 children were born, Kim, Scott, and Todd. Important people that shared in his life were Alice "Sis" Claussen, Tracy and Loren Bosch, and his beloved dogs. His interest were in car racing and spending time at his lake cabin. Survivors include his two children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Todd, and Alice "Sis".
