Evelyn held deeply to the Lutheran faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

Evelyn Jensen, 98 of Hurley, passed away on September 17, 2023 at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Viborg. Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Hurley. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday, September 22, at the church. In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethany Lutheran Church or Aseracare. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home. Evelyn Ruby Jorgensen was born on July 3, 1925 in Viborg, SD to Christian and Marie (Lauritzen) Jorgensen. She was the fifth of seven children. She attended school between Hurley and Viborg. On January 25, 1945 she was united in marriage to Gernhart Nielsen. To this union 6 children were born Wayne, Dan, Mark, Susan, Tim, and Beth. Gernhart passed in 1969. In 1992 she was united in marriage to Howard Jensen and they were married 13 years. "Faith, Family, Work" is the family motto that Evelyn lived and taught her children. She worked various jobs in her life. From helping at Spomer's Market to running a fishing camp in Canada, she had done it all. She is a member of Bethany Lutheran Church where she served on the Ladies aid for many years. Evelyn will be missed. She is survived by her children Wayne (Barbara) of Sioux Falls, Dan (Marica) of Hurley, Mark (Julie) of Yankton, Tim of Littleton, CO., and Beth Breen of Yankton; 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; brother Kenneth (Belva) Jorgensen of Viborg; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Gernhart Nielsen and Howard Jensen, daughter Susan Fundak, grandson Brian Nielsen, and siblings Donald, Leon, Ann Loo, Robert, and Waldo.
