Some stories deserve to be told slowly. This is one of them.

Born in 1941, Arden began a life that would touch many along the way.

Arden stood in service when he was needed; that, too, is a kind of legacy.

Arden Eugene Gerdes, 76, was born near Hurley, SD, on April 7, 1941 to Arnold and Marie (Petersen) Gerdes. He graduated from Hurley High School in 1959. From 1963-1965 he served in the US Army. He was an employee at the Hurley State Bank and Custer State Park. He retired in 2013 and moved to McAllen, Texas. Arden passed away at the VA Medical Center Hospital in Sioux Falls on March 11, 2018. Grateful for having shared his life are two brothers, Marlyn (Judy) Gerdes of Hurley, Don ( Jeannie) Gerdes of Hurley; a sister Marlene Gross of Canton. Also surviving are nine nieces and nephews: Aaron (Cary) Gerdes, Molly (Chad) Mason, Chuck (Dione) Gerdes, Jim (Tracy) Gerdes, Kim (Clint) Schroedermeier, Jeff ( Carol) Gross, Karen (Chris ) Mathieu, Pam (Andy) Toft, and John Gross. He is preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Jody Endres. Private service will be held.
