It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Larry J. Roth, 59, — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.

What follows is written with love, by those who knew him best.

The story begins in 1956, with the arrival of a life that would be cherished by many.

Service is one chapter of a life, but for those who serve, it shapes every other.

Larry J. Roth, 59 of Parker died Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at the Dougherty Hospice, Sioux Falls. Visitation with family present will be from 2-4pm Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home, Parker with a Memorial Service at 4:00pm. Larry John Roth was born on December 24, 1956 at Hot Springs, SD to John "Jack" and Kathleen (Coyle) Roth. He moved with his family to Parker, SD where he graduated from Parker High School in 1975. He served in the US Navy for 22 years in the submarine forces, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 1997. On July 25, 1997 he was united in marriage to LaVetta (Roper). They moved to Parker in 2002. He was a member of the VFW, liked hunting, bowling, and playing pool and cards. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife LaVetta; his mother Kathleen, Rapid City, his father Jack (Deb), Parker, 2 step children Roy Grace, Moore, OK and Andrea Smith, Seminole, OK; 2 step grandchildren Austin and Hannah Grace; and 4 brothers and sisters, Linda Baldwin, Rapid City, Sharon E. Roth, Dallas, TX, Michael (Patti) Roth, Swan Lake, SD and Mark (Amy) Roth, Wright, WY. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, a niece Jennifer, an uncle Edward Roth, and a step grandson Matthew Grace.
