After a life of love and quiet grace, Milton Wieland, 77, of Alcester, SD has passed.

Below, a small portrait of a life that will not soon be forgotten.

The story begins in 1948, with the arrival of a life that would be cherished by many.

Milton spent his working life as ['a ski resort in Colorado', 'river boat guide on the Snake river in Idaho'] — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

The bonds of those who served beside him are bonds that time does not loosen.

Milton Wieland, 77 of Alcester, passed away unexpectedly at his home on November 8, 2025. Memorial services will be at 11:00am Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at the Hofmeister Jones Funeral Chapel in Viborg. Burial with military rites will be at the Elim Cemetery near Irene, SD. Arrangements will be provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home.Milt was raised in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High school in 1966. He then enlisted in the Marines and spent 2 tours in the Vietnam war.He attended Augustana College and then moved to Utah where he attended Utah State University and earned a degree in communications. Milt worked in Clearwater, FL and Dallas, TX, where he did research on property liens. This sent him traveling all over the country. After this in the winter he worked at a ski resort in Colorado. He loved to ski. In the summer he worked as a river boat guide on the Snake river in Idaho. Milt also worked in the restaurant business. He was the best waiter that never forgot an order.Milt had a way of bringing people together with planning many high school reunions and birthday parties. He had a big heart and compassion for helping others. After he retired he moved to Alcester area where he enjoyed gardening, caring for his cats and tending to his acreage. Milt loved playing golf, being in nature and cross country skiing.Milt is preceded in death by his parents (Willie and Beulah Wieland) and brother Paul Arthur. He is survived by his cats Blackie and Bonnie, uncle David Engen, sister in law Pat Wieland and her child Pyrrha, the class of 1966, and many other friends he had relationships with over the years.
