Roland Spomer, 97, has gone home, leaving behind a circle of those who loved him.

A life remembered begins, simply, with the telling.

Roland's story began in 1927, and unfolded across the years that followed.

Roland held deeply to the Lutheran faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

Belief, when lived, becomes a kind of inheritance.

Roland Spomer, 97 of Hurley, passed away on August 26, 2024 at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home, Viborg. Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church, Hurley with burial with military honors at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7pm Friday evening at the church. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home. Roland Erwin Spomer was born on June 12, 1927 to Jacob and Christine Spomer. He was the 2nd of 5 children, following Harold and then followed by Warren, Norma, and Doris. He graduated from Hurley High School and was later drafted in the United States Army. He was Honorably Discharged on December 30, 1952. After returning from the Army, Roland started farming in the Hurley area. After many years of farming he moved into Hurley before moving to Viborg and Pioneer Memorial. He enjoyed traveling with Norma, Doris and Dennis when he wasn't busy farming. Roland was also active in the Hurley American Legion, Hurley Senior Citizens, and Zion Lutheran Church. Roland will be missed. He is survived by his sister, Doris (Dennis) Bahn; his 10 nieces and nephews, Judy (Wayne) Petersen, Jane (Steven) Spielman, Jean Spomer, Susan Spomer, Tim Spomer, Todd (Marcy) Spomer, Kathryn (Bill) Lowrey, David (Jennifer) Nehrig, Sandra Bergen, and Steven (Desy) Bahn; and several great-nieces and nephews. Roland was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harold (Carol) and Warren (Dianne), sister Norma (Fred), and a niece Shari.
