Carmen D. Strunk, 92 of Viborg, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home, Viborg. Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home. Carmen was born October 18, 1930, in rural Centerville, to Louie and Millicent (Nelson) Manzel. She was baptized on May 10, 1945 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Carmen attended school in Viborg where she graduated in 1948. She went on to study and graduate from Sacred Heart School of Nursing, Yankton, SD on September 3, 1953. Carmen worked as an OB/GYN nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton for several years. From 2005 to 2008 she worked part-time at the PMNH Assisted Living Facility in Viborg as a Resident Assistant. Carmen was united in marriage to Orlin Strunk on June 7, 1953. They lived in numerous locations while Orlin worked construction. They returned to Viborg in 1963 and operated a farm southeast of Viborg. They retired and moved into Viborg in 2008. Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter Karla and son-in-law Frank Werner of Clayton, NC; sister Mary Lou Paulsen of Rapid City, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orlin Strunk; sister Virginia Hansen; parents Louie and Millicent Manzel; brothers-in-law Gordon Oleson and Orland Paulsen.
