Born in 1938, Evelyn began a life that would touch many along the way.

To raise a child is to give the world a future. Evelyn did this with care.

Evelyn Sherard Evelyn Sherard, 78 of Hurley died Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the Pioneer Villa, Viborg. Her request was to have her body donated to the USD School of Medicine, Vermillion. A service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home. Evelyn Helen Anderson was born on July 30, 1938 at Viborg, SD to Carl and Esther Anderson. She grew up at Viborg and on March 8, 1956 she was united in marriage to James "Jim" Sherard. They lived in Hurley most of their married life outside of some early days when Jim worked construction. Evelyn was a very talented woman who sewed clothes, knitted, tatted, baked, styled hair, and among other crafts and handworks. She was employed with Merchants State Bank for over 30 years in addition to holding jobs at sewing places, Meilmans and several photography studios where she hand painted pictures. Evelyn always had the coffee pot on and welcomed everyone to her table. Grateful for having shared her life are 2 children, Kathy Olesen, St. Augustine, Fl and Russ (Rachael) Sherard, Hurley; 4 grandchildren, Chris Olesen, Michigan, Allison Ebbesen and Collin Sherard, both of Hurley, and Domenique Olesen, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; a great granddaughter, Blake; adopted granddaughers, Vickie Hofer and Susie Schmidt; special friends Dianne Peterson and Janice Ramsley; sisters and brother in law, Deloris Anderson, Joanne (Don) Gross, and Gene Sherard; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim in 2002, a brother Delmer, and a granddaughter Candace.
