With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Wendy Lape, 61,.

What follows is not the whole story, but a thread of it.

Wendy entered this world in 1960 — the start of a journey that would span 62 years.

Honor is not a word lightly given. Wendy earned it.

Wendy Lape, age 61, loving mother, grandmother, and adoring wife to husband Terry Lape, passed away in the early hours of May 13th after an accident in the storm that came through South Dakota on the May 12th, 2022. Wendy was born on Dec 7th, 1960, in Sioux Falls SD and grew up in Sioux Falls, Menno, and then graduated from Canistota in 1979. After graduation Wendy served in the Air Force until she was medically discharged. Wendy met her husband Terry and was married on July 11th, 1986. Wendy was known to be a loving and caring women, always giving her time to others. As a mother she was generous, loving, and kind. She was an incredible mother to Travis (Lynn) Lape and Tiffany (Jesse) Rufener. She was a stepmom to Josh Ellis and Jessica Lape and step grandmother to Brandon and Jewel. Wendy was also a loving, spoiling, and fun grandma to DJ, Blake, Holly, Tyler, and Miles. These kids were the love of her life, and she would do anything for them. Wendy worked different professions throughout her life. She was the head cook for the Marion School District, CNA at different assisted living centers, owned Terry' Place in Monroe with her husband, worked for Wells Fargo in the fraud department and had recently switched to First Premier Bank Card working from home. In her free time, Wendy loved to sit out on their patio drinking coffee and reading a good book she was an avid Harry Potter fan, dog mom to their Shih Tzu Shadow. She will be greatly missed by her family and especially her 7 grandkids who were the love of her life. We will hold onto the memories we have of Wendy. Goodbye to a wonderful woman a beautiful wife, mom, and grandmother. Wendy was survived by her husband Terry Lape, son Travis, daughter in law Lynn, grandchild DJ, grandchild Tyler Lape, daughter Tiffany, son in law Jesse, grandchild Blake, grandchild Holly, and grandchild Miles Rufener, stepson Josh Ellis, stepdaughter Jessica, step grandchildren Brandon and Jewel. Wendy was proceeded in death by her mom Maddy and father Wendall Faulken. There will be a graveside service for those who would like to celebrate Wendy and the joy she was to this world on Wednesday May 18th, 2022, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery 2001 E 12th St, Sioux Falls, SD 57103 at 1pm. There will be a gathering of family and friends for cookies and coffee at Hope Lutheran 1700 S Cliff Ave, Sioux Falls, SD 57105 following the service to share memories and celebrate Wendy.
