The family of Sue Boersma, 73, announces her passing, and invites all who knew her to remember her here.

Here is what mattered, in the years between the dates.

Sue's story began in 1949, and unfolded across the years that followed.

Sue spent her working life as ['The Arch Halfway Home'] — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

A parent leaves not only memory, but the people they helped become.

Sue Boersma, 73 of Monroe, passed away on October 8, 2022. Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, October 14, 2022 at Calvary reformed Church, Monroe. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday, October 13, 2022 at the church with a Prayer Service starting at 7:00 PM. Susan Boersma was born on October 1, 1949 to Harold and Norma (Kolass) Munce in Humboldt, SD. She was the 10 th of 11 children in the family. She graduated from Humboldt High School and received an Associates Degree in Business Administration from Killian Community College. She worked in the Collections Department at Bank of New York and as an Independent Contractor for Lexus Nexus. Sue also worked for The Arch Halfway Home, helping people transition from the prison back to the community. Sue married Paul Boersma on Labor Day weekend of 1987, and brought her children Destry and Shelly into the marriage to complete their family. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Around the area she was known as "Mama Susie", as she would be a person that neighborhood kids could talk to and could always find a meal. As a devoted Christian, she always put others needs ahead of her own. Sue was an animal lover. Growing up, Sue's Mom said that when she moved out of the house she could have as many dogs as she liked. Sue took that to heart and had many animals, especially dogs. Sue and Paul started Dutchman Danes and Poodles, raising Great Danes, German Shepherds, and Poodles. Sue is survived by her husband Paul of Monroe; children Destry (Beth) Boersma of Sioux Falls and Shelly (Corey) Benson of Parker; grandchildren Annah (Ronnie) Bullard, San Diego, CA, Abby and Allison Boersma, Sioux Falls, and Lucas Benson, Parker; great-grandchildren Adrian and Jasmine Bullard; siblings Carole (Bob) Dubbelde, Hot Springs Village, AR, Ed (Darlene) Munce, Sioux Falls, and Sandy (Jack) Garry, Humboldt; sisters-in-law Lill Munce, Omaha, Kay Munce, Sioux Falls, and Lavonne Munce, Hartford; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Norma Munce, and siblings Richard Munce, Jack Munce, Milton Munce, Donna Grocott, Eugene Munce, Betty Tunender, and Nancy Mallinger.
